Lost in Thought

This was a very personal piece for me, we lost my Grandfather to Alzheimers and watching him and the rest of my family go through that was devastating. It made me realize how complex and unreliable our minds really are and to me this piece reflects those moments of complete disconnect from reality and as a bystander trying to understand something that to anyone but him was incomprehensible.

This picture was very labour intensive: I drew out the maze in vine charcoal first, then coloured the conte into the negative space around the charcoal, when what was done I used a kneadable eraser and scooped the vine charcoal off the page.

Made in 2012
Materials: conte, vine charcoal
